About BT's Tavern and Restaurant
Established in 1961, Bungs was a small local tavern in the
township of Florence, NJ. In 1998 it was relocated a quarter mile south on
route 130 to make room for a new Turnpike entrance. Reopening in 1999 under new
ownership, the tavern was no longer a small watering hole. Bungs now sits on five acres. It offers a large bar seating more than 40 guests. It also has two dining
rooms, a private banquet room, and outside dining. One of its unique features are two
Olympic-size sand volleyball courts. In the past 20 years, Bungs lost its luster
and gradually eroded. On the verge of closing its doors, two restaurateurs, James Lorenzo and Charles Demichele, saw an opportunity to bring Bungs back to
its glory days.
Charles is a creative chef known for his outstanding gourmet
pizza, and craft food, complemented by local craft beer and IPAs. James runs the
front of the house and is a visionary in the true sense of the word. Charles and
James took over in August of 2017, and their vision is to offer something for
everyone. Whether you’re looking for great pizza, gourmet sandwiches on house
made bread, or a 16 oz T-bone, we have it. Our banquet facility offers catering
from Contemporary American to Classic Italian cuisine featured in our Roebling
Room. The Roebling room is a private banquet facility offering a private
entrance, handicap accessibility, private rest rooms with full bar, private outdoor
patio, and seating for up to 100 guests.
After focusing on the cuisine, the next step is to re-brand
Bungs Tavern’s image. One part of our
vision is to make Bungs a foundry for the musical and performing arts.
While still in its early stages, our music venue is quickly catching on. We now
call ourselves BT Restaurant & Tavern and offer live music on the weekend,
karaoke on Thursday and an open mic night on Wednesdays.
